Prof.dr.ir. Eveline van Leeuwen (1978) is professor of Urban Economics at Wageningen University & Research. The chair of Urban Economics focuses on two main themes: sustainable consumption and city-country interactions. “A city is not an island. That is why it is good to look more closely at the outskirts of the city: What can both be of each other? Because in order to achieve the climate goals, the energy transition and the new goals of circular agriculture, the city and the countryside absolutely need each other. "
Van Leeuwen and her Urban Economics team investigate, among other things, the differences between the preferences of individuals in the countryside and the city. In addition, her research group focuses on the regional level: How do transport and consumption patterns work; which interactions bring supply and demand from city and country together?
