Elma van Boxel (1975) studied landscape architecture at IAH Larenstein and Architecture & Urbanism at the Rotterdam Academy of Architecture and Urban Design. She founded ZUS [Zones Urbaines Sensibles] in 2001 together with Kristian Koreman. As a duo, van Boxel and Koreman work as researchers and designers within the fields of architecture, urbanism and landscape design. Their constant critical research has resulted in a multitude of publications such as their book ‘City of Permanent Temporality’. Currently, van Boxel and Koreman are visiting professors at the Syracuse University in New York. Due to their transboundary works, the duo received the ‘Maaskant Prize for Young Architects 2007’ and were awarded ‘Architects of the Year 2012’ as well as being nominated for the AM-NAi prize, the ‘Gouden Piramide’ and ‘Mies van der Rohe award’. They have won the Berlin Urban Intervention Award and most recently, the ‘Nederlandse Bouwprijs’.
