Saskia van Stein
The success of the city is based on proximity and interaction between people. And exactly the opposite is needed to combat the virus. Suddenly, most public places are a threat to public health and safety.
In his period as Chief Government Architect, Floris Alkemade focuses on the social agenda surrounding architecture and the city. Elma van Boxel, co-founder of ZUS [Zones Urbaines Sensibles], works on design and research in the broad spectrum of urban planning, architecture and landscape architecture. Ongoing critical research results in publications such as the book City of Permanent Temporality. Lyongo Juliana is director of OZ Caribbean and, as Architect in Residence (AiR) at ARCAM Architectuurcentrum Amsterdam, is currently investigating the extent of diversity and inclusiveness in architecture.
Led by Saskia van Stein, Floris Alkemade, Elma van Boxel and Lyongo Juliana discuss the role of design in social questions, such as inclusion/exclusion.
