Architect and Pritzker Prize winner Kevin Roche passed away on march 1, 2019, at the age of 96. During TIAFF 2019 we pay attention to his work and ideas in the film Kevin Roche: The Quite Architect.
94-year old Irish-American architect Kevin Roche had no interest in fame, and continually looks to the future. Roche's architectural philosophy is that 'the responsibility of the modern architect is to create a community for a modern society'. He does so by bringing nature into buildings. Is nature a prerequisite to live in, or an attempt to escape from, the city?
The film may appeal to the visitor with an interest in biographical films and the theme of incorporating nature in the city and its building. The architecture of Kevin Roche is ne of the decors for the movie 'Columbus' which will be screened at TIAFF (zaal 1, 21.45 uur ).
