Between a nuclear power plant and a gigantic container dock of the port of Antwerp, lies the almost deserted village of Doel. The government wanted to demolish the village in order to expand the harbour. Residents fought for preservation for years. ‘‘DOEL’ is a quirky, humourous portrait of six of the remaining inhabitants and their struggle with Dutch techno ravers, curious urban explorers and political havoc.
Speaker: Mark Minkjan
Mark Minkjan is an urban geographer, lecturer, architecture critic and editor-in-chief at Failed Architecture. Prior to the film Doel, Mark will share his fascination for ruins and 'ruin porn' with the audience.
