Architecture must blaze (55 min)
The documentary shows how idiosyncratic thinkers can create important innovation in architecture. The title refers to the manifesto with which architect Wolf D. Prix turned the architecture world upside down in 1968 as a revolutionary and activist. Inspired by the 'happenings' in the sixties, he and Helmut Swiczinsky started the agency Coop Himmelb(l)au, which caused a storm with buildings that looked like they were exploding. They became the figurehead of deconstructivism with projects such as the Martin Luther Church in Hainsburg and the Groninger Museum.
Kristian Koreman from ZUS [Zones Urbaines Sensibles] (40 min)
Lecture: Kristian Koreman (1978) heads the Rotterdam office ZUS (Zones Urbaines Sensibles) together with Elma van Boxel. Since its foundation in 2001, ZUS has been working in the field of architecture, urban planning and landscape architecture, and pushing the boundaries between these domains. Their belief is the potential of anything and every place to be unique and exciting. In 2007 ZUS won the Maaskant prize for young architects and in 2012 the office was named Architect of the Year (small offices category). ZUS was curator of the 5th International Architecture Biennale in Rotterdam and of the first BMW Guggenheim Lab in New York. ZUS is also the designer of the City Forum in Tilburg.
